Nervous System Resilience

What is Nervous System Regulation and Resilience ?

Our nervous system is foundational for wellbeing. Many of us live in a chronic state of fight/flight or freeze/shutdown modes of nervous system, or bouncing between both.  This is experienced as chronic anxiety, frustration, lots of negative thinking or disconnection, low motivation and lack of positive feelings. 
These 2 nervous system modes are built in survival reflexes that serve us when there is actual danger. But they should only activate briefly, to motivate us into action or to avoid danger, and then when danger is passed our system should naturally reset to the 3rd mode commonly know as rest/digest/connect - where we feel calm/energized, relaxed, flexibly responsive and engaged with life. Due to undigested past trauma, inadequate attunement with our earliest caregivers and/or our modern lifestyle - fast paced and demanding constant productivity - our nervous systems become habituated in these survival activations instead of returning to the flexible grounded responsive nervous system mode. 

The good news is that it's possible to reset and rewire the nervous system.

To rewire the nervous system and we need to befriend it - become aware of how it works through becoming more present in our body. There are practices we can do to facilitate a flexible nervous system.

When we practice working with our nervous system to increase flexibility and capacity - responding appropriately to life stressors, and returning to a calm present engaged baseline. The benefits grow over time and the key is practicing daily. Expanding your nervous system flexibility and capacity greatly increases the effectiveness of other inner work and healing modalities you engage in.

It’s when we don't have this foundation of resourcing and safety that our nervous system gets stuck in fight/flight/freeze/shutdown mode, leaving us feeling chronically stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected, unmotivated.
